Why become a Staff Instructor with Khao Lak Scuba Adventures?
Becoming an IDC Staff Instructor is a key step forward for any Instructor. It is fantastic for personal development, as now you can teach Assistant Instructors and assist on IDCs, but just as importantly it gives you the chance to share the real-life knowledge and experience that you have learned, with Instructor Candidates who are just starting out.Once you’ve been teaching for a couple of years, it is easy to get stuck in a rut, doing the same courses week after week. Becoming a Staff Instructor gives you something extra and allows you to develop a ‘mentoring’ role. You learn how to assess and counsel IDC candidates, you’re able to give them the benefit of your experience, and show them ways of overcoming problems that may seem overwhelming to them, but routine for you.
Reviewing Standards
How much do you remember from your IDC? For most Instructors the Staff Instructor Course is an important review of PADI Standards, and a chance to see the IDC from the other side – it’s surprisingly different when you’re teaching rather than learning!
At Khao Lak Scuba Adventures we have a very experienced Course Director Mark Soworka with many years working as a CD, and our Master Instructor Ann Christmas assisting on every IDC. When numbers require, we have other Staff Instructors assisting as well. This gives you lots of experience that you can call on during your PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course with us.
Moving forward
Many Dive Centres require a Staff Instructor rating for management or senior training positions. PADI IDC Staff Instructor is a pre-requisite for PADI Master Instructor rating, and is an important step towards Course Director.
